East Windsor Township Recognizes National Library Week

Mayor Janice S. Mironov proclaimed National Library Week April 7 to 13, with the theme “Libraries = Strong Communities" and recognized the important role of the two East Windsor library branches, Hickory Corner and Twin Rivers, of the Mercer County Library system.  Mayor Mironov presented the Proclamation, along with Barnes and Noble gift certificates donated by Shiseido America, to Jeanne Murray, Branch Manager of the Twin Rivers Library branch and Mary Astarita, Senior Reference Librarian of the Hickory Corner Library, along with East Windsor Township Mercer County Library Commission Representative Phyllis Anker and President of the Friends of the Library for Hickory Corner Library Debbie Scherholz.

Mayor Mironov stated, “every year we celebrate National Library Week to recognize the great role our libraries play in East Windsor and to remind everyone how important they are.  Our libraries are wonderful treasures that have become a central focus for our community.  On any given day, you’ll see students working on homework or helping each other with tutoring, individuals taking out books, movies, and music, and families with young children enjoying all kinds of programs that occur throughout the week. Our libraries also provide important services for residents, meeting spaces for community groups, and special events featuring speakers and movies throughout the year.  We thank all of the people that help promote our libraries throughout the county and the municipality and the staff that are there day in and day out to help residents and make visiting the library such a great pleasure.”

The Mayoral Proclamation issued by Mayor Mironov states, “our public libraries provide all people with books, information, computers, videos, audio cassettes and other resources to enrich their lives.”  The Proclamation continues, “Librarians provide the essential guidance and support needed by children, teenagers and adults alike in their search for knowledge and information, as well as their pursuit of avocational and leisure interests.”
