Mayor Janice S. Mironov, Deputy Mayor David Russell, and Council Members Richard Eland, Marc Lippman, Joseph Miczak, Johnnie Whittington, and John Zoller, joined by members of Mercer County Moms Demand Action, issued a Mayoral Proclamation recognizing June 5 as "National Gun Violence Awareness Day." The proclamation seeks to raise awareness about the impacts of gun violence, honor victims and survivors, and encourage responsible gun ownership and firearm safety.
Mercer County Moms Demand Action is a grassroots organization dedicated to promoting gun safety, raising awareness about the impact of gun violence, and helping keep families and communities safe.
Mayor Mironov stated, "We applaud the efforts of Moms Demand Action to promote safety in our communities. National Gun Violence Awareness Day provides an opportunity for us to come together to honor and remember all victims and survivors of gun violence and to recommit ourselves to reducing the impacts of senseless gun violence while encouraging responsible gun ownership."
Mayor Mironov added, "Regardless of differing viewpoints, there are many common-sense measures we can all support, such as the responsible use of gun locks and secure firearm storage to help prevent accidents and keep our families safe."
The Mayoral Proclamation states, "Americans are 26 times more likely to die by gun homicide than residents of other high-income nations. East Windsor Township renews its commitment to reducing gun violence and pledges to do all it can to promote responsible gun ownership, encourage firearm safety, and help keep firearms out of the wrong hands in order to protect our residents and children."
