East Windsor Township Proclaims Autism Awareness Month - Recognizes Autism New Jersey

Mayor Janice S. Mironov proclaimed East Windsor Mayor proclaimed April as "Autism Awareness Month" and further recognized "Autism New Jersey" for spearheading awareness efforts in order to educate parents, professionals and the general public about autism and its effects. Mayor Mironov called upon "all employees and residents to recognize Autism Awareness Month by promoting understanding, acceptance and support for individuals and families affected by autism."

The Mayoral Proclamation notes that, "Autism was once thought to be a relatively rare disorder, but is now considered one of the fastest-growing developmental disorders in the United States. As more health professionals become proficient in identifying and diagnosing autism, approximately one in every 35 children in New Jersey and one in every 31 children in the United States are identified with autism spectrum disorder. Early diagnosis, research, education, and therapy play a critical role in improving outcomes and supporting individuals and their families."

Mayor Mironov's Proclamation further states, "Autism New Jersey spearheads awareness efforts in order to educate parents, professionals and the general public about autism and its effects; early diagnosis and treatment can significantly improve outcomes for people. It is important to recognize advancements in this research and to continue these efforts by promoting awareness and fostering an understanding of autism."
