East Windsor Township Celebrates Arbor Day With Free Distribution of Tree Saplings On Saturday, May 1

FOR RELEASE:   April 26, 2021

East Windsor Mayor Janice Mironov announced that the East Windsor Township Environmental Commission will be promoting Arbor Day with a free tree sapling giveaway event on Saturday, May 1 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. or until supplies run out at the East Windsor Police Athletic League fields on Airport Road.  The rain date for this event is Saturday, May 8.  American Holly saplings will be available to Township residents on a first-come first-serve basis.

Mayor Mironov stated, “Arbor Day is a wonderful time for both children and adults to remember and appreciate the beauty of our environment and to commit to preserving, improving and replenishing our trees and woodlands.  Tree planting is a wise investment in our community and the vitality of our future, so we encourage residents to take advantage of this seedling distribution event.”

American Holly is a wildlife-friendly evergreen tree with dark green, spine-tipped leaves and light gray bark.  It has tiny, greenish-white flowers that bloom in May and June and berry bearing fruit providing a food for birds during the winter, and provides a nectar source for honeybees and butterflies.  More information on this variety can be found at www.arborday.org.
