East Windsor Township Presents to Fay Fisch 2018 Sylvia Weiss Senior Citizen Award for Outstanding Service as a Volunteer

Mayor Janice S. Mironov, accompanied by Members of the Township Commission on Aging, issued a Proclamation recognizing May as Older Americans Month and presented to Fay Fisch the 2018 “Sylvia Weiss Senior Citizen Award for Outstanding Service as a Volunteer.”  The ceremony took place at the East Windsor Township Senior Center on May 21.

Fay Fisch, an East Windsor resident for 32 years, has been volunteering at the East Windsor Township Senior Center for the past three and a half years.  Ms. Fisch dedicates over thirty hours each week to the Senior Center, where she assists staff and members in a multitude of ways by manning the front desk, aiding members with program registration, welcoming and registering new members, chaperoning trips, and conducting tours of the Senior Center.   Ms. Fisch is described as knowledgeable, caring, diligent, dependable and professional by members of the Senior Center who have come to know her during her time volunteering, and she is highly regarded for always offering to help out when needed.

Mayor Mironov praised the honoree stating, “Fay Fisch is a well-liked and respected volunteer whose work ethic and commitment is a tremendous asset to the successful operations and welcoming atmosphere of the Township Senior Center.  Fay is one of the first faces people see when they join the Center and her wonderful helpful demeanor makes everyone feel wanted and at home.  I am proud and grateful to present this award to Fay and thank her for her tremendous past and future volunteer service to East Windsor’s senior citizens.”

The Sylvia Weiss Senior Citizen Award for Outstanding Service as a Volunteer, presented annually by East Windsor Township, recognizes a senior citizen who has exhibited outstanding service through volunteerism to the community by way of schools, religious institutions, service organizations or directly to the public.  Sylvia Weiss is a former East Windsor Township Council Member, past Council senior citizen advisor and chairperson of the Commission on Aging and was instrumental in the original formation of the senior citizen program.

The Mayoral Proclamation for Older Americans Month notes that, “this year’s theme ‘Engage at Every Age’ marks the 53rd year of the Older Americans Act, emphasizing that you are never too old to participate in activities which can enrich physical, mental and emotional well-being while celebrating the many diverse contributions of older adults to our nation and their positive impact in the lives of others.”  The Proclamation continues, “the residents of East Windsor are most grateful for the guidance and wise contributions of our Senior Citizens and wish to express our gratitude and appreciation.”
