East Windsor Township Awarded New Community Bus Vehicle by New Jersey Transit

Mayor Janice S. Mironov announced that New Jersey Transit has approved the grant application by Mayor and Council for a new bus to replace the existing Community Bus vehicle, used primarily by local senior citizens.

Mayor Mironov stated, “We are grateful to New Jersey Transit for the support for our Community Bus service which is a critical transportation resource for the seniors in our community.  The Community Bus connects our residents to local shopping centers, medical offices, and recreation, as well as to the vibrant East Windsor Township Senior Center, which offers a wide array of social, educational, health, recreational and nutrition programs and activities.”

The East Windsor Township Community Bus service to local shopping centers and medical offices is available Monday through Friday.  There is a minimal charge of only 25 cents per trip.  The bus service is operated out of the Township’s Senior Center on Lanning Boulevard.  The bus makes regular stops at several Township senior citizen housing developments in the area.  For further information, or for a pick-up by the Community Bus people should call the Senior Center a day ahead at (609) 371-7192.

NJ Transit has indicated that actual delivery of the new bus to East Windsor cannot take place, pending completion of the time needed for funding approval steps and bidding and contract award.  The new bus will be lift equipped for the handicapped as is the existing bus.
