East Windsor Township Established 2020 Census Complete Count Committee Invites Citizen Participation

Mayor Janice S. Mironov announced that East Windsor Township Mayor and Council have established a 2020 Census Complete Count Committee, to encourage all residents to participate in events and initiatives that will raise the awareness of the 2020 Census and increase participation to ensure an accurate count of all persons within the community.  The Township is inviting local citizens, business members and representatives of community organizations to participate on the East Windsor 2020 Census Complete Count Committee.

The U.S. Census Bureau is required by the U.S. Constitution to conduct a count of the national population every ten years.  Census data, which is confidential and protected by law, is used to determine the number of seats each state has in the United States House of Representatives and is necessary for an accurate and fair redistricting of state legislative seats, and local voting districts.  Population totals have many other important impacts, including affecting federal and state funding allocated to communities, forecasting future housing and transportation needs for the local population, attracting new businesses to the area, directing funds for area social services, and other planning tools.

Mayor Janice Mironov stated, “It is important that every single East Windsor resident is represented and included in the 2020 Census.  Achieving a complete count is essential to ensuring that East Windsor receives maximum funding and is accurately and fairly represented in our state legislature and Congress.  The 2020 Census Complete Count Committee will assist the Township in achieving our goal of a complete census count by educating the community on the importance of the census and motivating everyone to respond.  Anyone who is interested in volunteering to serve on this committee should contact the Township.”

The purpose of the East Windsor Township 2020 Census Complete Count Committee is to advise and assist the Township in obtaining the most accurate and complete population count for the 2020 Census by designing and implementing a census awareness campaign targeted to the East Windsor community to increase the number of responses.  Functions of the committee will include discussing and formulating strategies, developing and implementing an awareness campaign to encourage participation by population groups that are often undercounted, and planning and conducting local educational initiatives.

Residents, local business owners and organizations interested in volunteering for the East Windsor 2020 Census Complete Count Committee should contact the Mayor’s Office at the Municipal Building, 16 Lanning Boulevard, East Windsor, New Jersey 08520.
