EAST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP PRESENTS TO SIMON “SKIP” BERMAN 2025 SYLVIA WEISS SENIOR CITIZEN AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING SERVICE AS A VOLUNTEER

EAST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP. Mayor Janice S. Mironov and Council Members presented the 2025 Sylvia Weiss Senior Citizen Award for Outstanding Service as a volunteer to Simon “Skip” Berman for his broad and significant service. Simon “Skip” Berman, a longtime Township resident has and continues to serve East Windsor in a variety of meaningful ways, including 27 years on the Township Planning Board and the past three years as Chairperson, a past Zoning Board of Adjustment member, over ten years as Secretary of East Windsor Green Space, Inc., which supports municipal open space acquisitions, and member of the East Windsor Cable Franchise Renewal Committee. Skip has served 10 years on the Beth El Synagogue Board of Trustees and various executive positions including Vice President Buildings and Grounds, Vice President of Administration, Treasurer and Executive Vice President and significantly as President where he led the Synagogue through the difficulties of the COVID epidemic, economic challenges and increased security needs, as well as enhancing the facility’s sustainability features. For the past three years, he has volunteered as a civics and criminal justice instructor at Princeton Learning Cooperative, an alternative educational resource for teens. Mayor Mironov praised honoree Simon “Skip” Berman, stating, “Skip has been a tremendously committed senior citizen volunteer, generously dedicating his time and energy to a wide range of important community organizations. His long-standing service and leadership reflects a deep dedication to the betterment of our Township, and truly exemplifies the spirit of this Award.” The Sylvia Weiss Senior Citizen Award for Outstanding Service as a Volunteer, presented annually by East Windsor Township, recognizes a senior citizen who has exhibited outstanding service through volunteerism to the community by way of schools, religious institutions, service organizations or directly to the public. Sylvia Weiss was a former East Windsor Township Council Member, past Council Senior citizen advisor and chairperson of the Commission on Aging, and was instrumental in the original formation of the senior citizen program.
