East Windsor Township Recognizes Volunteer Firefighters of the Year During Fire Prevention Week

Mayor Janice S. Mironov proclaimed Fire Prevention Week, thanked all of East Windsor’s dedicated volunteer fire company members, and recognized 2015 Firefighters of the Year, Robert Pycior of East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, and Bruce Cowper of East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 2.

Mayor Mironov issued Proclamations to Firefighters of the Year Robert Pycior and Bruce Cowper, “expressing deep appreciation for their special and invaluable contributions and extraordinary dedication.”  She noted that “volunteer firefighters Robert Pycior and Bruce Cowper are outstanding models, who have devoted countless hours to public service, earning them much respect from Fire Company members and the entire East Windsor community."

Robert Pycior joined East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 in 2011, and over the past several years has been a tremendous asset to the company demonstrating enormous commitment and contributions through his many activities and roles of leadership and responsibility.  Robert Pycior, who currently serves as Lieutenant, quickly ascended through Fire Company leadership, serving as Engineer, Recording Secretary, Chairperson of the Business Fund Drive and a member of the Golf Outing and Business Fund Drive. Robert is known as the “go to guy” for taking on any task asked of him and has become a “lead by example” model, especially for the newer firefighters.  He is actively involved on the Fire Prevention Committee visiting local schools and daycare centers, where he has worked closely with the children during fire prevention presentations, as well as participating in numerous community events and prevention activities.  Robert is the 2015 number one company responder, responding to over 429 fire calls, as well as attending numerous training drills, meetings, special trainings, and work details totaling over 578 firefighting man hours.

Bruce Cowper joined East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 in January 2015 as a probationary firefighter, then graduated from the Burlington County Fire Academy in June 2015 and was honored at the Burlington County Chief’s Dinner for attaining Burlington County Fire Academy’s highest grade point average that year.  He quickly ascended to a Fire Company No 2 leadership role, currently serving as Vice President and Chairperson of the Membership Committee.  In 2015, Bruce Cowper, known for his “great spirit”, responded to over 123 fire calls, in addition to attending numerous training drills and community events.  To enhance his knowledge and skills, Bruce has taken numerous educational classes on Engine Company Operations, Strategy and Tactics for Townhomes and Restaurant Fires, and Carbon Monoxide Emergencies. He also has demonstrated strong personal support for the firefighters that dedicated their lives in the tragic events of 9/11 by participating in the Tunnel to Towers Run in 2015.

Mayor Mironov further noted, firefighters in East Windsor are 100% volunteer and are always looking for new members.  Local volunteers are your friends and neighbors who answer our fire calls.  Perform a great community service by joining and becoming a part of East Windsor treasured volunteers, by calling Fire Company No. 1 at (609) 448-5487 or Fire Company 2 at (609) 443-5130.
