Welcome to East Windsor Township
E-News Updates!

This is the initial launch of this new service to provide e-mail notification of municipal news and special events to persons who sign up to receive them. The E-News Updates will be sent at least monthly and will disseminate information on new businesses and stores, roadway projects, grants and special events among other subjects of public interest. The Township hopes that this will become another important avenue for keeping residents informed about what is happening in East Windsor.

  1. Parrot Beach Concert will be held at Etra Lake Park on Sunday, October 22 at 4 p.m., at no charge. Parrot Beach will perform the tropical island sounds of Jimmy Buffet, featuring songs as Margaritaville, Cheeseburger in Paradise, Volcano, 5 o’clock Somewhere and many more.

  2. Flu Clinics will be provided by the Township during set dates in October and November for senior citizens age 60 and over (plus those identified by the chronic medical conditions guidelines i.e. diabetes, asthma, cardiac who cannot; obtain the shot from their primary physician). The flu shots, which will be provided at the Township Senior Center, require appointments that are made by calling the Health Department at (609) 443-4000 ext. 222.

  3. East Windsor Volunteer Rescue Squad District 1 Second Annual Haunted House will be held at the squad facility on One Mile Road Extension across from the police building. The Haunted House, recommended for ages 12 and up, will be open from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on October 20 - 22 and October 27 - 29, and the charge is $5.

  4. East Windsor Volunteer Rescue Squad District 1 Second Annual Just 4 Kidz Halloween Funfest will be held on October 21, 22, 28, and 29 from 3 to 6 p.m., at the squad facility on One Mile Road Extension across from the police building. Just 4 Kidz, recommended for children ages 4 to 12, will include arts and crafts, prizes for best costumes and a behind the scenes look at the Haunted House.

  5. East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 Annual Community Halloween Party will be held on Saturday, October 28, at the fire company facility on Twin Rivers Drive. Refreshments will be provided, and costume prizes will be awarded.

  6. Curbing Installation to Morrison Avenue and Resurfacing of Morrison and a portion of Dutch Neck Road are underway, with assistance from a Mercer County Neighborhood Revitalization Grant and the Mercer County cooperative paving program. Lane and roadway closures may occur for periods of some days during the project. All work, weather permitting, is anticipated to be completed by early November.

  7. Probasco Road Bridge Replacement, according to Middlesex County, is to begin approximately October 23, and last about nine months. The bridge is to be widened to 35 feet and a five-foot sidewalk will be added. The bridge, under Middlesex County jurisdiction, is an old bridge with wood planks held together by metal slats which is in poor condition, and has generated area noise by the clanking of loose planks.

  8. McGraw-Hill Companies is proposing to invest more than $100 million to construct a new state-of-the-art data center in 180,000 square feet of an existing vacant warehouse on its south campus on Princeton Hightstown Road. The new data center will provide support for much of the Company’s global operations. McGraw-Hill, East Windsor’s largest employer and a major operations center for the Company for almost 50 years, employs about 1000 people in approximately 900,000 square feet of facilities.

  9. Kohls plans to open a new store on Route 130 North, bordered by Hickory Corner Road to the south and Route 33. The new two-story store, which will total 105,744 square feet and employ approximately 200 people, is projected by Kohls to open in fall 2007. The site also will include a bank and restaurant.

  10. Perkins Restaurant will open in the former Goodfella’s on Princeton Hightstown Road. The restaurant, expected to open by early December, following renovations, will have experienced operators who manage six other successful Perkins including the one on Route 9 in Freehold and Route 18 in East Brunswick.

  1. East Windsor Rescue Squad, District II Open House will be held at their Twin Rivers Drive facility on Sunday, November 5 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.  There will be free food, rides, games and prizes and a face painter.  Anyone who is over the age of 18 that becomes a member that day will have a chance to win a brand new 32” flat screen LED/HDTV television.

  2. East Windsor Police Athletic League is sponsoring a live on-stage tribute to the Beatles on Saturday, November 4 at 8 pm at the East Windsor Regional School District Hightstown High School.  Tickets to the two-hour show “Beatlemania Now” can be obtained for $15 by calling 448-5333 and $20 at the door the night of the show, if available.  Doors open 7 pm.

  3.   4. Free Rabies Clinic for all Township dogs and cats will be sponsored by East Windsor Township. Residents must have rabies vaccinations that do not expire prior to November 1, 2007 in order to receive a 2007 dog license.  The clinics will be held on Saturday, November 11, from 1 to 3 pm at East Windsor Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 on One Mile Road and on Saturday, November 18, from 1 to 3 pm at East Windsor Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 on Twin Rivers Drive.  For more information about the clinic, call the Township Police Department at 448-5678, ext. 229.

  5. East Windsor Farmers Market, a green grocer specializing in fresh fruits and vegetables, will occupy the 10,000 square foot space in the East Windsor Towne Center Shopping Center formerly occupied by CVS, which moved to a new free-standing building in the same center.

  6. Tom Bryan’s Karate School and Pro Fitness Gym and the Holy Cow Grill are two new businesses which opened in the Twin Rivers Shopping Center on Saturday, October 14.  The Holy Cow Grill, which is open for lunch and dinner, specializes in South American dishes.  Tom Bryan’s facility offers karate, martial arts, kickboxing, fitness training, real street self-defense and numerous age appropriate children programs.  The Twin Rivers Shopping Center is fully leased.

  7. A Recreational Trails Program Grant of $20,280 from the Federal Highway Administration and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has been awarded to the Township to construct a one-mile long trail in "Turnpike Park," an 80 acre wooded open space property located off Old York Road just west of the New Jersey Turnpike.  The trail will connect with an existing trail completed last year in the adjacent Woods Road Community Park.

  8. New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety Grants have been awarded to the Township in the amount of $22,000 for the continuation and expansion of the Township’s highly successful annual Bicycle Safety Program, and $5,300 to promote the proper use of Child Safety Car Seats.  The Child Safety Car Seat Program will include opportunities for “check-ups” by police who are certified Child Safety Car Seat Technicians regarding proper installation, proper location, proper size and type of seats based on the age and weight of the child.  The Bicycle Safety Program will continue the free bicycle helmet and bicycle light distribution.

  9. The Route 130 Corridor Beautification Project is nearing completion.  The improvements for the second phase of the project include the installation of pavers and the planting of shrubs and perennials in the median along Route 130 at two major intersections, Route 571 and Dutch Neck Road.  Additional plantings in the median will also be made between intersections.  The project is being funded by a $100,000 grant from the N.J. Department of Transportation.

  12. $500,000 Mercer at Play Grant application has been submitted to Mercer County for the development of new playing fields on a 59-acre property on Disbrow Hill Road, opposite Etra Lake Park.  Softball fields and multipurpose soccer/lacrosse fields are proposed.  A decision by the County on the award is expected by year end.

  1. Mercer at Play Grant in the amount of $250,000 has been awarded by Mercer County for the development of new playing fields on a 59-acre Township open space property on Disbrow Hill Road, opposite Etra Lake Park. Softball fields and multipurpose soccer/lacrosse fields are proposed. Mercer County plans to award an additional $250,000 grant in 2007 for this same project. This $500,000 will supplement $200,000 previously awarded to the Township in State grants.
     

  2. A $233,000 State Grant for Abbington Drive has been awarded by the NJ Department of Transportation. Abbington Drive, an approximately .55-mile roadway that runs parallel to Route 33 between Lake Drive and Twin Rivers Drive, is deteriorated and in need of improvements. East Windsor applied in June 2006 to the NJ Department of Transportation under the 2007 Municipal Aid Program. The $233,000 State grant will be used to mill and resurface the roadway pavement as well as make related improvements to stormwater outlets, curbing and install handicapped ramps.
     

  3. P.S.E & G. Gas Line Project along Town Center Road commenced on Monday, November 27. P.S.E. & G. is installing the new gas line under the existing sidewalk and paved paths on the south side of Town Center Road. Weather permitting, the project should take approximately two weeks. Access to Stonegate development will be maintained during the construction.
     

  4. Route 130 Bridge Deck Replacement Project in the area of Town Center Road and the Town Center Plaza by the New Jersey Department of Transportation is nearing completion. Traffic has been restored to normal travel lanes and work to restore the center median has already commenced. The Department of Transportation has stated that all major work is now completed.
     

  5. East Windsor Township is participating in the Womanspace Sponsored Communities of Light Project to help increase awareness of domestic violence and services for victims. All area residents are invited to gather with candles at the Municipal Building on December 17 at 5 pm. Candle kits are being sold for $10.00 at Yardville National Bank on Princeton-Hightstown Road and at Windsor Nissan on the southbound side of Route 130. Proceeds will benefit Womanspace, a Mercer County-based non-profit which provides services for domestic violence victims, and seven other domestic violence agencies in Central Jersey.
     

  6. A New Perkins Restaurant at the corner of Princeton-Hightstown Road and Lanning Boulevard opened on Monday, December 11. The restaurant building, formerly occupied by Goodfella’s, has been completely renovated. The restaurant is a full service restaurant with an in-house bakery serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hours will be from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
     

  7. The University Medical Center at Princeton opened a new state-of-the-art Breast Health Center at the East Windsor Medical Commons on December 4. The East Windsor Medical Commons is located at the intersection of Princeton-Hightstown Road and Old Trenton Road. The Center is equipped with the latest advanced technology for breast disease diagnosis and management.
     

  8. The Route 130 Corridor Beautification Project, funded by a $100,000 grant from the N.J. Department of Transportation, has been completed. The improvements for the second phase of the project include the installation of pavers and the planting of shrubs and perennials in the median at two major intersections in the Township’s main retail area: Route 571 and Dutch Neck Road. Additional plantings were done in the median between intersections. The first phase, funded by a grant, consisted of plantings at various intersections and 14 business locations along Route 130, and was completed last year.
     

  9. Acquisition of a 121 Acre Parcel off Etra Road for Open Spacehas been approved by Mayor and Council. The purchase price of $1,675,000 will be financed totally by grants and developer funds without any local tax dollars. The State’s Green Acres Program is expected to contribute a grant of $875,000 and Mercer County will provide a grant of $262,500. The balance of the funds will come from the State Environmental Infrastructure Trust which will provide a low interest loan at 1.065%, to be repaid from developer funds in Township accounts earning 4.8% interest. This will be the largest single parcel to be acquired by the Township for open space.
     

  10. Kohl’s plan to open a new department store in East Windsor on Route 130 North at the intersection of Route 130 and Hickory Corner Road has been approved by the planning board. The new two-story store, which will total 105,744 square feet and employ approximately 200 people, is projected by Kohl’s to open in the fall of 2007. Also included on the site is a proposed freestanding bank and restaurant.
     

  11. Volunteers for Appointment to Various Township Board and Committees are always invited to apply. The Mayor and Council make appointments at the January reorganization meeting and throughout the year. Volunteer boards include the Clean Communities Advisory Committee, Commission on Aging, East Windsor Municipal Utilities Authority, Economic Development Committee, Health Advisory Board, Municipal Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse, Planning Board, Recreation Commission, Transportation Advisory Committee, and Zoning Board of Adjustment.
