  3. Mayor Janice S. Mironov Issued Proclamation Recognizing May as "Mental Health Awareness Month". The Mayoral Proclamation states, "mental health, which is a vital part of overall health, helps to sustain an individual's thought processes, relationships, productivity, and ability to adapt to change and face challenges. Mental illness adversely affects those abilities and is often life-threatening. One in five adults experience a mental health condition each year. In 2019, approximately 51.5 million adults in the United States experienced mental illness, but only 43.8 percent received treatment. Early identification and treatment can make a profound difference in successful management of mental illness and recovery," The Mayoral Proclamation is issued to "increase public understanding of the importance of mental health and to promote identification and treatment of mental illnesses, and calls upon all East Windsor citizens, government agencies, public and private institutions, businesses and schools to recommit our community to increasing awareness and reduce the stigma and discrimination often associated with mental illness." Residents can participate on Saturday, May 22 in NAMIWalks Your Way Mercer County (CLICK HERE), a nationwide virtual event sponsored by the National Alliance on Mental Illness, designed to raise money and promote public awareness about fostering good mental health and positivity.
