CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) UPDATE

Mercer County has reported, as of July 9, 2020, there have been 20 new cases for a total of 7,751 confirmed COVID-19 Cases to date, and a total, sadly, of 552 deaths in Mercer County. All active cases are either at home self-isolating or admitted to the hospital. The State of New Jersey today reported 319 additional Confirmed COVID-19 Cases for a current total of 174,039 cases, and 32 additional deaths for a total of 13,476 COVID-19 related deaths statewide. For all further information and data related to COVID-19 cases, go to the New Jersey official COVID-19 dashboard (CLICK HERE).

It is important that everyone continue practicing social distancing, wearing a face covering when required and prudent, following the advice and directives of health care professionals and government officials, and using good sense, so we can all get through this difficult period together. We need to remember that the most effective and most caring responsible thing we can continue to do for ourselves, our loved ones and our entire community is to continue all of these practices.

STATE OF NEW JERSEY UPDATES

Governor Murphy signed Executive Order No. 163 (CLICK HERE) on July 8, requiring individuals to wear masks in outdoor public spaces when they cannot social distance. The Order is in addition to previous orders that face masks must be worn while in public indoor spaces. There are several express exceptions when masks are not necessary:

  • You are outside in close proximity with family members, household partners or caretakers
  • You are eating or drinking during outdoor dining
  • You need to briefly remove your face coverings for religious reasons
  • You are swimming
  • You are doing high intensity aerobic or anaerobic activities
  • You are in a situation where the presence of a mask would pose a risk to your safety
  • Children under the age of two are not required to wear a mask

The order notes that while the risk of transmission is significantly lower in outdoor settings than in indoor settings, concentrations of individuals in close proximity outdoors who are unable to socially distance still create a danger that COVID-19 can spread from person-to-person. The intent of this order is to dramatically lower that risk in outdoor settings.
