  8. Special Notice from East Windsor Environmental Commission: Invasive Plant Species. The East Windsor Environmental Commission advises Township residents to support our native wildlife. Native plants form an intricate food web that is critical to survival of local and migratory species. These plants and animals evolved together and adapted to local conditions. Non-native plants, mainly native to Europe and Asia, escape our commercial and backyard landscapes and destroy the balance of our natural areas. Deer and other grazing animals typically will not eat invasive plants, enabling them to outcompete native plants. New Jersey joined other states this year by banning some invasive plants from commercial sales. The Invasive Species Management Act contains an initial list of 30 plants that cannot be sold after 2030, including many familiar plants such as burning bush, Callery pear, English ivy, and Norway maple. (CLICK HERE) to see the full list. Homeowners and businesses can reduce the impact of invasive plants by:
    • Shopping for plants that are native to NJ.
    • Replacing existing invasive plants (CLICK HERE).
    • Watching for unfamiliar “volunteers” in garden beds and open areas of commercial properties or yards and remove invasive plants before they mature.
    • Volunteering with outdoor groups to remove invasive plants from woodlands and parks (CLICK HERE).
