 - Special Notice from Environmental Commission: Tick Update. The East Windsor Environmental Commission reminds residents that tick season continues in New Jersey through September. Ticks can carry serious diseases that affect humans and pets. Most ticks are not born carrying disease-causing pathogens, however they contract them by feeding on infected wildlife such as deer and mice. If a disease-infected tick bites you, it takes 24-48 hours to transmit the pathogen (if the tick remains attached). Here are some tick bite prevention tips:
Wear light colored clothing, tuck pants into socks & shirt into pants. Apply repellent to yourself and clothing. | Use a repellent that contains DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon or Eucalyptus. | Perform frequent tick checks- check everywhere, especially behind ears, knees and around ankles. |
