  1. REMINDER:   East Windsor Independence Day Celebration Will Be Held TOMORROW Saturday July 1 (rain date Saturday, July 8) at Etra Lake Park.  Free entertainment begins at 6 pm with the Jerry Rife's Rhythm Kings Dixieland Jazz Band, a 6 piece band from the Delaware Valley area best known for its traditional jazz sound, followed at 7:30 pm by the Trenton Brass Quintet Plus One, a 6 piece ensemble from Central Jersey performing "Americana" and a variety of popular melodies.  The spectacular Fireworks Display will commence immediately following the musical presentations, at approximately 9:30 pm.  Bring your blankets and chairs, and use the barbecue grills for a night of free fun at beautiful Etra Lake Park.  There also will be vendors present selling refreshments.  This free event is made possible through the generous contributions of many area businesses.  In the event of inclement weather, call (609) 443-4000, ext. 400 for cancellation information.
  2. New Kohl's Store Is Coming to East Windsor, to be Located in the Available Space Next to Patel's Grocery in the East Windsor Village ("Target Center") on Princeton Hightstown Road.  Work is currently underway on the new Kohl’s store, which is set to open in October of this year.  The company will begin hiring for full- and part-time positions at the store in July.  Kohl’s has more than 1,100 stores in 49 states.  In addition to offering great national, and exclusive brands, all Kohl’s stores are equipped for customers to buy online at Kohls.com and pick up their purchase in store at the customer service desk.  Kohl’s supports the community through an associate volunteer program and through the Kohl’s Cares merchandise program, which features kid-friendly cause merchandise, with 100 percent of the net profit donated to support children’s health initiatives in communities where Kohl’s does business.  The decision by a well-known successful national retainer as Kohls to site a store in East Windsor underscores once again East Windsor's local vibrant economy and pro-active efforts to support and attract new business.
  3. Improvements to Cypress Drive between Spruce Road and Oak Creek Circle and Woodland Drive Between Oak Creek Road and Cypress Drive Continue.  The concrete work and storm drain and pipe repairs have been completed. Milling and paving are anticipated to begin in mid-July.
  4. Township Awards Contract for Roadway Improvements to Brooktree Road between Oak Creek Road and Amy Drive, Amy Drive, Lindenbrook Way, and Maple Stream Road between Amy Drive and Route 130 South, to low bidder, The Earle Companies of Farmingdale, New Jersey.  The roadway improvements will include milling and resurfacing, as well as repairs to curbs, driveway aprons and handicapped ramps.  The roadway project is anticipated to begin in mid-summer.
  5. East Windsor Township Will Hold Document Shredding/Recycling Day on Wednesday, July 12 from 4 pm to 8 pm, at the East Windsor Senior Center, located at 40 Lanning Boulevard.  This Township event is sponsored by Mayor Janice S. Mironov and Members of Council, in conjunction with the East Windsor Clean Communities Committee.  Free document shredding will be available to East Windsor residents, with a limit of ten boxes per household.  No commercial drop-offs are permitted.  RISE will be on-site for drop-off of shoes, clothing, blankets, working appliances, useable furniture, and housewares.  NO ELECTRONICS ACCEPTED at this event (i.e. NO televisions, computers, computer accessories and non-working appliances.)  For further information, call (609) 443-4000, ext. 215.
  6. 2017 "Sylvia Weiss Senior Citizen Award for Outstanding Service as a Volunteer" Awarded to Stephen Schienvar by Mayor Janice S. Mironov and the Township Commission on Aging.  Steve Schienvar, an East Windsor resident for 44 years, volunteered for 30 years as an Emergency Medical Technician as well as 10 years as Treasurer with East Windsor Rescue Squad, District 2.  Currently, he continues to serve as Chairperson of the East Windsor Township Juvenile Conference Committee, on which he has volunteered for over 27 years, a Court-appointed group which handles Township juvenile referrals to provide guidance to help prevent future misconduct.  Steve also volunteers as a Care Ambassador in the emergency room of the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro.  The "Sylvia Weisss Senior Citizen Award for Outstanding Service as a Volunteer," presented annually by East Windsor Township, recognizes a senior citizen who has exhibited outstanding service through volunteerism to the community by way of schools, religious institutions, service organizations or directly to the public.  Sylvia Weiss was a former East Windsor Township Council Member, past Council senior citizen advisor and chairperson of the Commission on Aging, and was instrumental in the original formation of the senior citizen program.

  7. East Windsor Holds Tusk Concert on Sunday, July 23 at 6 pm at Etra Lake Park.  The "Fleetwood Mac" tribute band, comprised of five seasoned musicians who have been entertaining together for over twenty-five years, will feature chart topping hits such as "Landslide", "Rhiannon", "Oh Well," "Go Your Own Way", "Don’t Stop", "Dreams", "Say You Love Me", "Hold Me" and many others.  All of the free summer concert and family night series is made possible by the generous donations of many area businesses.  In the event of questionable weather, call the East Windsor Information Hotline at (609) 443-4000, ext. 400 after 1 pm the day of the event.  In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held at the East Windsor Regional School District Hightstown High School Auditorium.
  8. East Windsor Township Mayor Janice S. Mironov and Council Members Announce Implementation of New Substance Abuse Recovery Program.  The East Windsor C.A.R.E. (Community Addiction Recovery Effort) program is a partnership between the police department and the local opiate task force, specifically Recovery Advocates of America and City of Angels, to provide resources, access to treatment, counselling and guidance from trained addiction counselors to individuals the police department come into contact with who are suffering from substance abuse or addiction issues.  Individuals who opt to participate in this voluntary program will be provided with an opportunity to discuss pathways to treatment and recovery in a safe, private setting.
  9. Groups and Businesses Are Invited to Participate in "National Night Out" Set for Tuesday, August 1, from 6 pm to 9 pm at the East Windsor PAL Complex, 30 Airport Road.  This annual fun educational Township event, sponsored by Mayor Janice Mironov and Council Members in conjunction with Chief of Police James Geary, features crime watch information, emergency services equipment, music, booths and displays by area groups and businesses with information and giveaways supporting the National Night Out theme.  Area community groups and businesses who wish to offer support, participate or host a booth can contact Det.   10. REMINDER:   East Windsor Residents Are Reminded They Can Register Cellular Phone Numbers for the Local Township Reverse 9-1-1 System Used to Communicate in Emergency Situations, as was done during Hurricane Irene and Hurricane Sandy.  Home phones already are part of the systems database.  To sign up a mobile phone, go to: http://www.mercercounty.org/departments/emergency-management-public-safety/mercer-county-emergency-notification-system.  IMPORTANT NOTE:   Regardless of your zip code, for Township residents and businesses, you must register East Windsor Township as your municipality to receive the proper notices.
  11. Mercer County Hazardous Waste Collection and Electronics Recycling Event Will Be Held Saturday, July 15, from 8 am to 2 pm, rain or shine, at the John T. Dempster Fire School, located on Bakers Basin/Lawrence Station Road in Lawrence Township.   No registration is required, just proof of Mercer County residency.  Residents can dispose of aerosol cans, used motor oil, propane gas tanks, pesticides, herbicides, car batteries, paint thinner, oil based pain, gasoline, anti-freeze, driveway sealer, insect repellants, and fluorescent and compact fluorescent bulbs.  Used electronic equipment, including computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, televisions, and microwaves will be accepted.  For further information, visit the MCIA website at www.mcianj.org or call (609) 278-8086.
  12. No Township Curbside Garbage Collection Will Occur on Tuesday, July 4 due to the holiday.  Residents of Area #2, who would normally have garbage collection on Tuesday, July 4, are to put their garbage out on the next regularly scheduled collection date which is Friday, July 7.  Public works schedules can be viewed on the Township website at (CLICK HERE).
  13. Township Offices Will Be CLOSED Tuesday, July 4 due to the holiday.
