1. Hovione Celebrates Expansion in East Windsor, Company's North American Hub, with Opening of New Facility at 89 Twin Rivers Drive. Hovione, a Portugal-based global pharmaceutical life science company, founded over 65 years ago, has opened a new facility that doubles the company's United States spray drying capacity and reinforces Hovione's global leadership in this technology platform. The opening of the 89 Twin Rivers Drive facility completes Hovione's current $100 million local investment cycle and represents a significant milestone in the next phase of evolution of a fully integrated East Windsor campus, bringing materials to final product. The new facility expansion will employ approximately 80 people. Today, Hovione partners with 19 of the world's 20 largest pharmaceutical companies and is involved in up to ten percent of medicines approved annually by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Over the next five to ten years, Hovione's vision is to continue to expand the East Windsor campus, with plans to develop approximately 15 acres of adjacent property into a 125,000 square foot manufacturing facility supporting additional laboratories, commercial-scale spray drying and oral drug product manufacturing.

2. Mayor Mironov and the East Windsor Health Advisory Board Invite Residents to Participate in the Second Mayors Wellness Walk and Talk on Saturday, September 26, at 9 A.M. at Etra Lake Park (9 Disbrow Hill Road). Rain date is Saturday, October 3. The walk will be at Etra Lake Park Pathway, which is approximately one mile in length, and may be walked multiple times at the discretion of participants. The Mayors Wellness Walk was the kick-off activity after the Township joined the Mayors Wellness Campaign, an initiative sponsored by the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute. The Wellness Walk tag line is, "Take a walk. Meet your neighbors. Feel better together." The goal of the Walk and Talk is to make health and wellness approachable for residents of all ages and abilities by encouraging regular movement, social interaction, and active participation in the East Windsor community.

   

3. REMINDER: Mayor Janice S. Mironov and Members of Council Will Hold Recycling Day and Document Shredding Event TOMORROW Saturday, September 19 from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. Rain or Shine, at the East Windsor Senior Center (40 Lanning Boulevard). Free paper shredding services to securely dispose of unneeded personal documents and confidential files are available to East Windsor Residents Only, until the shredding truck is full. No commercial documents are accepted, and there is a limit of ten boxes per household. Plastic film recycling is available at the event, with accepted materials including, bread bags, grocery bags, air pillows, ziploc, bubble wrap, produce bags, dry cleaning bags, shipping envelopes and newspaper sleeves. Electronic recycling is available for computers, computer monitors, laptops and televisions. Also accepted for drop-off are fluorescent bulbs, cell phones and printer cartridges. RISE will be on site to collect usable furniture, clothing, blankets and working household appliances and electronics. For further information, call (609) 443-4000, ext. 415.

4. East Windsor Mayor and Council Members Thank State and County Officials for their Grant Support of the New Outdoor Pavilion at the Township Senior Center. The newly constructed 20 feet by 34 feet Pavilion located just to the east of the existing Center building and funded as one of the many projects using a portion of the $1.3 Million state grant obtained for park and recreation improvements, along with a County Mercer at Play grant, enables seniors to enjoy more programs and fun outdoors together, such as exercise classes, group discussions, presentations and just hanging outside. The Mayor and Council selected the Pavilion materials and colors in an effort to best coordinate with the existing Senior Center. The Pavilion project, awarded to Liberty Parks and Playgrounds, was constructed on a concrete pad, is a powder coated steel structure, with an Evergreen color roof, almost identical to the original facility roof color, with Light Stone colored posts. The project was fully funded through state and county grants successfully obtained by the Mayor and Council, with the support of 14th District legislators, including Mercer County Executive Dan Benson, Senator Linda Greenstein, Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo and Assemblywoman Tennille McCoy.

East Windsor Offers Free Flu Clinics on Thursday, October 1 from 9:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. and on Thursday, October 22 from 1 P.M. to 4 P.M. at the Township Senior Center (40 Lanning Boulevard), for East Windsor and Hightstown residents 60 years and older. The vaccinations are by appointment only, by calling the Township Health Department at (609) 443-4000, ext. 422.
6. East Windsor Township Recreation Department Youth Programs Begin in Late September/Early October. The Township Recreation Department is offering several after school programs and weekend courses for children of all ages, including; Bricks 4 Kids, Jr. Chef cooking program, Art Club, Yoga, Chess and Tennis. 7. East Windsor Recreation Hosts Halloween “Trick-or-Treat” Event on Saturday, October 24, from 10 A.M. to 12 P.M. at Etra Lake Park. The free community event, for children 12 and under, will include Halloween themed arts and crafts, face painting, DJ, and Trick-or-Treat trail. Interested participants MUST be accompanied by an adult and will need to register through Community Pass (CLICK HERE).
